From making your own Christmas decorations using recyclable materials through to a behind-the-scenes look inside a garbage truck, next month's free Community Day at Mildura Eco Village will feature something fun and entertaining for everyone, with a focus on sustainable living.

Running from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, 10 December, the community day is a partnership between Mildura Rural City Council and AroundAgain, featuring a host of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Activities include:

  • Sustainable Christmas Workshop – decorate a native pine and make your own Christmas decorations using recycled materials
  • Giveaways
  • Free Australian Native tube stock trees
  • See the inside of a garbage truck and have your photo taken beside the vehicle
  • Tours of the Mildura Landfill
  • Tours of AroundAgain
  • Free BBQ

Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said the event was the perfect outing for families, offering a unique combination of free fun activities to enjoy, unique all-access tours of the entire Mildura Landfill and AroundAgain sites and great sustainability tips.

"Whether you're looking for an activity-filled morning for the kids or are keen to take a tour of one of our region's busiest and most important pieces of community infrastructure, next month's Community Day is the perfect opportunity to do all of this and much more," Cr Modica said.

"Importantly, it will also be a great way to learn more about how we can go about our lives more sustainably, including Christmas decorating!"
