The last few days have not been easy for West Australians with the bushfires and COVID-19 lockdown affecting the Perth, Peel and South West regions. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted during this time.
While there is a lot going on, community support is vital to cancer research. Over the next 24 hours, every donation will be multiplied by four as part of our Cancer Research Giving Day.
Every dollar donated before 9am on Friday 5 February, will be matched by our generous matching donors, meaning your donation will have four times the impact!
Cancer research is the only way that we can improve outcomes for cancer patients, including lung cancer survivor, Valerie.
Valerie was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic lung cancer in October 2018. Through participating in a clinical trial, Valerie's tumour shrunk by 70 per cent in less than a year.
"The opportunity to be a part of a clinical trial is life-changing," said Valerie.
Professor Anna Nowak, Medical Oncologist at the Cancer Centre at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital and Professor of Medicine at UWA, says clinical trials give a definitive answer to whether something works or not, and more clinical trials are needed.
"Clinical trials provide hope for cancer patients and we probably need at least doubling of the number of clinical trials currently available," Professor Nowak said.
If you can, please make a donation today to help us raise $400,000 to fund vital life-saving cancer research to help more people like Valerie. Every dollar will be matched, thanks to our generous matched donors, meaning your $25 today = $100 for cancer research.
