Townsville Eats back for epic Queensland Reds gameday

Council's hugely popular Townsville Eats event is back with a bang ahead of the Queensland Reds season opener at the iconic Queensland Country Bank Stadium this Saturday night.

The Reds are taking on Kiwi powerhouse the Hurricanes this Saturday, with Townsville Eats: Queensland Reds Edition to run in Flinders Central from 3pm ahead of the big game.

Townsville Eats will feature dozens of food trucks, live music and roving entertainers for everyone to enjoy before fans make the short walk to the stadium to cheer on the Reds.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was delighted to be able to pair a Townsville Eats event with the Reds season opener and encouraged residents to come along and experience the fantastic atmosphere.

"Council's Townsville Eats events have gone from strength to strength and it's the perfect way for fans to come together to enjoy the city centre before a great night at the rugby," Mayor Hill said.

"Fans will be able to dine out on a wide range of cuisines while taking in live music and entertainers before enjoying all the excitement of world class rugby in our city's fantastic stadium."

For the first time in Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) history, the Queensland Reds will play two games in Townsville this year as part of the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific draw.

After this Saturday's game the Reds will return to take on traditional rivals New South Wales at the same venue on Saturday, 6 May 2023, in a double header with the Super W (women's competition) grand final.

Over the past 12 months Council has delivered over 60 inclusive events for community, including things like the seniors' lunches, Anzac Day, NAFA, Carols by Candlelight and Townsville Eats, while also working to attract a range of additional events for Townsville residents.
