TRC Urges State to Hold North-South Road Community Forums

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is calling on the Queensland State Government to host a series of community forums to better engage with the community about the Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said a series of community information sessions was a vital way for the community to be able to gather information on the project as well as provide feedback.

"The Department of Transport and Main Roads need to engage with affected landholders with a series of public information forums to provide a detailed explanation of the project prior to the feedback deadline.

"This is vital to ensuring all views are considered as well as giving affected landholders information relevant to the project," Mayor McDonald said.

TRC Infrastructure Services Group Portfolio Chair Councillor Carol Taylor said there had been some incorrect community assumption about Council's prior knowledge around the current proposed alignment.

"Council has only been provided with minimal detail on the current corridor that is now out for consultation," Cr Carol Taylor said.

TRC Infrastructure Services Group Portfolio Lead Councillor Melissa Taylor said now was the time for affected landholders to have their say.

"It is pleasing that State Government has extended the community consultation period until 8 September and I encourage the community to make their views known ASAP," Cr Melissa Taylor said.
