Trio charged after home invasion in Coburg

Moreland Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested and charged three people after a man was assaulted and a staffy was stolen during a home invasion in Coburg this week.

The trio, a 29-year-old woman of no fixed address and two men from Bundoora aged 29 and 49-years-old, have been charged with aggravated home invasion, assault and damage related offences.

They were arrested in possession of the allegedly stolen dog in Sunshine yesterday.

The charges follow a home invasion in Gordon Street on Tuesday 23 August about 7.45pm.

It is alleged two of the three people involved were armed when they entered the property and assaulted the victim before they also made off with the 6-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier.

The dog has been handed to a local ranger and will be returned to its rightful owner.

Police are investigating whether the incident occurred due to a dispute over the ownership of the dog.

The trio have been remanded in custody to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
