Unique work stories from across Townsville will be put centre stage at Tropic Tales today (Friday 8 April 2022).
Tropic Tales is an initiative to record Townsville residents' stories so they can be added to the Townsville City Council Local History Collection.
Each session is facilitated by Kate Osborne and features a number of speakers who deliver interesting short stories about their experiences in the north.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the events started late last year.
"The first Tropic Tales event last year focused on Cyclone Althea, giving a personal perspective on the significant weather event. Now, we're concentrating on the interesting stories that locals have experienced at work across Townsville," Cr Greaney said.
"These stories touch on lives changed at work, comedies of errors, heroic deeds and strokes of luck.
"This is a really intimate look at life in Townsville, and it's a great way to preserve that oral history so Townsville locals can look back at it in years to come."
Cr Greaney said this was an enlightening event to attend at Arcadia Surf Life Saving Club.
"The stories told at Tropic will be recorded to form part of our Local History Collection, but I'd still recommend coming along to the live events," she said.
