Two charged following armed robbery in Mortdale

Two men have been charged and investigations continue following an alleged armed robbery in Sydney’s south yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 10.30pm today, emergency services were called to a licensed premises on George Street, Mortdale, following reports of an attempted armed robbery.

Police have been told two men allegedly entered the premises and produced a firearm before threatening employees and demanding cash.

One man fled the scene as the other man was detained by a number of people who witnessed the incident.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the armed man at the scene before taking him to St George Hospital for minor injuries.

The man remains under police guard at hospital. No one else was injured during the incident.

Officers attached to St George Local Area Command canvassed the area and commenced an investigation.


A short time later police located a vehicle, believed to be connected to the incident, at Acacia Avenue, Oatley. It has been seized for forensic examination.

Police arrested two men and a woman at the location and they were taken to Kogarah Police Station and Sutherland Police Station.

The two men, 22 and 25, were charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon and refused bail, to appear at Sutherland Local Court today tomorrow.

The woman was released pending further inquiries. Investigations continue.
