Two men from Sydney have been charged with breaching the public health orders after being stopped by police twice within an hour in the Illawarra yesterday.
About 11.20am (Wednesday 1 September 2021), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District stopped a silver Holden Commodore with ACT registration, on the Princes Highway, Berkeley.
Officers spoke to the 18-year-old male driver and his male passenger, aged 41, with checks revealing they were from Blacktown, an LGA of concern.
Neither had a reasonable excuse to leave home, so they were advised they would be receiving an infringement and directed to return to Sydney.
Just forty minutes later, at about 12pm, officers from Wollongong Police District were patrolling Mangerton when they observed the same Commodore in Johanson Crescent.
Officers again spoke to the men who could not provide a reasonable excuse for failing to return to Sydney once directed.
They were arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where they were both charged with not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19.
Both men were granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday 14 October 2021.
