Two people critical after Port Melbourne collision

Two people have been critically injured and another three people seriously injured following a collision in Port Melbourne late yesterday.

Officers believe a Honda Odyssey van was involved in a minor collision with another car as it travelled inbound on the West Gate Freeway before it lost control just after 6pm.

Police have been told the Honda then skidded down the road and crashed into a dividing road barrier several times before it came to rest metres down the freeway.

Two of the seven people on board were taken to hospital with suspected critical injuries.

A further three people were seriously injured and transported to hospital.

Two people were lucky to escape with minimal injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives attended the scene and are investigating.

Several inbound lanes of the West Gate Freeway were closed for most on Sunday evening while detectives processed the scene.

The female driver of the van is yet to be spoken to by police as she is receiving medical treatment.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam vision is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
