University of Southern Queensland accelerates position among worlds top universities

Making a difference to our communities by solving real-world problems

The University of Southern Queensland has jumped 30 spots to place 86th in the prestigious 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, which focuses on the world's universities aged 50 or younger.

The University was particularly acclaimed in the categories of research citations and international outlook.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said it was validation of the University's strengths on the world stage.

"Our research in the flagship areas of space and defence, agriculture, health, and regional development, in addition to our international outlook have been key drivers in achieving this result," Professor Mackenzie said.

"I am incredibly proud of the people who made this ranking possible – it's further proof of our commitment to global excellence in teaching and research."

As Director of the University of Southern Queensland's Centre for Agricultural Engineering, Professor Bernadette McCabe has seen first-hand the community impact of the University's research both locally and on a global scale.

"Every year we continue to grow our international footprint. In delivering relevant knowledge and solutions to industry, the University plays a transformative role across a range of fields," Professor McCabe said.

"Bringing research from the laboratory into practice is at the heart of what we do.

"We aim to make a real difference to our communities by solving real-world problems.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are the only global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The Young University Rankings is based on the same performance indicators as the flagship ranking with the weightings adjusted to give less weight to reputation.
