GUT Networking Afternoon Fosters Knowledge Exchange and Connections

On 7 October 2026, colleagues at the Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit (GUT) at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, came together for an afternoon focused on research, knowledge exchange and new connections. Held at Neo, the event put GUT's doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in the spotlight by giving them an opportunity to present their research to colleagues from across the unit.

The programme began with a series of short presentations in the form of one-minute elevator pitches. Using a single slide, the participants presented their projects in a concise and accessible way. The presentations covered a broad range of research areas, including digital health interventions, gestational diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, metabolic inflammation, gene regulation, epigenetics, biomarkers, machine learning and spatial transcriptomics. Between the short presentations, there were opportunities for discussion and brief exercise breaks.

Poster session and networking

The afternoon continued with a poster session, during which the doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers could continue networking and discuss their projects with one another and with other researchers at GUT. Posters from several core facilities and centres also highlighted the research infrastructure available to researchers at KI Campus Flemingsberg. The event concluded with informal networking and further discussions at the Neo Pub.

An important and appreciated meeting point

The purpose of the GUT Networking Afternoon was to create opportunities for researchers from different groups and fields within the unit to meet, exchange ideas and identify potential collaborations. Feedback from participants after the event was positive and indicated increased awareness of research activities across GUT. Many also said that the format helped them connect with colleagues they did not already know. Interactive activities, active breaks and networking opportunities were highlighted as particularly appreciated elements of the programme.
