Upgrades On Way For Horsham College

  • Minister for Education

Horsham College will soon have important new works undertaken, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited the college to announce the upgrade, with $270,000 allocated for new outdoor shade sails and upgrades to relocatable classrooms.

The new shade sails will be located in the courtyard and will help the school meet the Education State target to increase the proportion of students taking part in physical activity to five times a week.

Four Year 9 relocatable classrooms will be upgraded with new light fittings, flooring, as well as new coats of paint for the external eaves. This will be funded through the Labor Government's $515 million Maintenance Blitz program which enables schools to undertake essential works, such as maintenance of essential infrastructure.

Horsham College provides a variety of pathway learning programs for its 976 students including satellite VCAL, a young parents program as well as initiatives to support students who are at risk of disengaging.

The school is also home to the Wimmera Trade Training Centre, which provides VET programs for students at 12 secondary schools in the region.

The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades across the state, supporting over 7500 construction jobs for Victorians.

A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government's school building boom, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the government delivering 11 new schools across the state, due to open in 2020.

As stated by Minister for Education James Merlino

"We are upgrading schools across Victoria so families can know that no matter where they live, they can access a great local school."

"This upgrade will boost the school's facilities, giving them better, more usable outdoor space, along with improved classrooms - an improvement that they deserve."

As stated by Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford

"It is exciting to see Horsham College get the funding it needs to improve its facilities."
