PITTSBURGH - Ashley Murillo, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, has been recognized with the Rising Star Award by Modern Healthcare, a national publication that highlights leaders making a meaningful difference in healthcare. As a urogynecologist, Murillo cares for patients with bladder and pelvic floor conditions, providing both non-surgical and surgical treatments at the UPMC Magee-Womens Center for Bladder and Pelvic Health. Urogynecology, often called urogyn, is a growing specialty that combines the expertise of urology and gynecology. Since the bladder and reproductive organs work closely together, urogynecologists receive advanced training to better understand and treat conditions that affect these organs. The Rising Star Award recognizes Murillo's efforts in expanding this newer field and ensuring patients of all ages have access to specialized pelvic health care.
