UQ researchers have received national recognition for helping Australians catch melanoma earlier - saving lives and making diagnosis more accessible in metro and regional areas.
The Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis - a collaboration between The University of Queensland, Monash University, The University of Sydney, and 15 hospitals and health services - received a Shaping Australia Award for their work to advance melanoma screening.
Led by Professor H. Peter Soyer , ACEMID is using advanced imaging and AI to set new global benchmarks in melanoma diagnosis and improve patient outcomes.
Professor Ben Hankamer was also recognised as a finalist in the same category for pioneering the use of sunlight‑driven microalgae chemistry to create sustainable products.
Presented by Universities Australia, the Shaping Australia Awards celebrate the positive impact of universities, with the Problem Solver category recognising collaborative research between universities, government and industry that is delivering breakthroughs for Australians.
