VCE Art & Design Exhibition returns this weekend

The VCE Art & Design Exhibition is returning to Central Goldfields Art Gallery this weekend, with artwork from local aspiring artists to be made available online.

Now in its 16th year, the VCE Art & Design exhibition features engaging and thought provoking work from 22 Highview College Year 12 students. Maryborough Education Centre will not be involved in this year's exhibition due to COVID-19.

A wide variety of work will be on display including paintings, drawings and photography from students who have studied Studio Arts and Visual Communication and Design.

The exhibition will continue until 22 November 2020.

Central Goldfields Shire Council CEO Lucy Roffey said while 2020 has proven to be a difficult year for students, the artwork they have produced is impressive.

"This year has been a challenging year for students, particularly for those in Year 12, but they have managed adapt and respond and produce outstanding artwork that is engaging and thought provoking.

"Congratulations to all students who are showcasing their work in this year's exhibition and to their teachers. The VCE Art & Design Exhibition is an annual highlight for us and this year is no different."

It has been a difficult year for Year 12 students, Studio Arts teacher Jeanean Pritchard said.

"I am very proud of their achievements despite the challenges they have faced. The students have been amazing in the way they have been able to adapt and respond to the obstacles COVID-19 presented to them," she said.
