Walk with us in support of 16 Days of Activism campaign

Put on your brightest orange clothes and join Melton City Council to walk against family violence this month.

Melton City Council is proud to be supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, an international campaign that aims to end violence against women and girls around the world.

16 Days of Activism starts on 25 November, coinciding with International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on 10 December, which marks Human Rights Day.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic encouraged the community to take a stand against family violence by participating in one of the activities hosted by Council, and supporting the elimination of violence against women in our communities.

"This campaign serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in showing that inequality and violence is not okay," Cr Kesic said.

"It might mean that you speak out when you hear a sexist comment and make sure your behaviour is respectful towards women. Let's challenge the attitudes that allow family violence to exist.

"I'd encourage everyone to take a look at the events we've planned and join us for a walk with neighbours, or listen in to one of the inspiring talks, and help create a respectful and supportive culture for all people in our city."
