  • Additional funding builds on women's sport package election commitment

The Cook Labor Government has today announced an additional $2 million, provided through Western Australia's Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program, to support the redevelopment of facilities at Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club at Kingsway Reserve.

The funding boost builds on a $1 million 2025 State Election commitment to the club as part of a $29.9 million package to upgrade sporting facilities and strengthen women and girls' participation in sport across WA.

The project will be delivered in partnership with the City of Wanneroo and will support upgrading changerooms and clubrooms to create more modern, welcoming and inclusive spaces, particularly to support the growing number of female players participating in rugby union.

Stage 1 of the project will include construction of new changerooms, with work expected to be completed by July 2027.

Planning is also underway for Stage 2, which will focus on redeveloping the existing clubroom building, expanding its facilities for players, families and volunteers.

The upgrades will support the continued growth of rugby union in Wanneroo and across Western Australia, ensuring local clubs have the infrastructure they need to thrive.

The project is part of the Cook Labor Government's PlayOn WA initiative, which will deliver 2,030 community sport and recreation infrastructure projects across the State by 2030.

This investment is delivering quality local infrastructure across the State to help more Western Australians stay active and connected to their communities.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"My government is committed to delivering quality local sport and recreation facilities for communities right across Western Australia.

"By investing in grassroots sporting clubs we're ensuring Western Australians have quality facilities for the future and that women and girls can participate in sport at all levels.

"This funding boost for Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club at Kingsway Reserve will ensure the club can continue to grow as an important community hub."

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We're proud to support grassroots clubs like Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club, which play such an important role in bringing communities together.

"These upgrades will ensure everyone, including women and girls, have access to modern and inclusive sporting facilities that support the continued growth of rugby union in WA.

"By investing in these facilities as part of our PlayOn WA initiative, our government is ensuring all Western Australians have the spaces where they can connect, play and stay active."

As stated by Landsdale MLA Daniel Pastorelli:

"This is a fantastic outcome for our local community and for everyone involved with Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club and rugby in the northern suburbs.

"These facility improvements will make a real difference for players, families and volunteers, and help create a more inclusive environment that encourages more women and girls to get involved in the sport.

"I'm proud to say that with this investment, the mighty Roodogs will be home to the best rugby union facilities in the northern suburbs, and arguably the best in the metro area."
