Wear Orange Wednesday 19 May

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

Today on Wear Orange Wednesday, I would like to say thank you to all of our SES volunteers who make an invaluable contribution to keeping Tasmanians safe.

Today we recognise the emergency service volunteers who give up their time to support our community, particularly in times of need during floods, storms and road accidents, while supporting councils, police and other emergency services.

Tasmanian SES volunteers have spent more than 10,700 hours responding to natural disasters and incidents in the past year, and helping to protect our community.

The diligence and bravery of Tasmania's 600 volunteers within the State Emergency Service and 5,000 volunteers from the Tasmania Fire Service, is to be truly commended.

So again, I say thank you to all of our volunteers for their invaluable contributions to our community and for their sacrifice, and encourage all Tasmanians to wear orange today in a show of thanks.
