Week on, No Cochlear Implant Update from Tasmanian Labor

Tas Labor

It has been nearly a week since concerns were first raised that faults with Cochlear implants may be causing unintended harm to Tasmanian children.

Yet despite the potential seriousness of the situation, the Government has still failed to provide any update or information.

Faults in programming of Cochlear implants in Adelaide have led to long-term developmental issues in children, with suggestions other states are likely impacted as well.

South Australian Health Minister Chris Picton said while announcing the findings from a review that it could have national implications.

Parents deserve to know if their children could have been impacted by these faults, and it is the duty of the State Government to address these concerns.

Health Minister Guy Barnett has been silent, instead opting for more photoshoots rather than getting on with the job.

Minister Barnett needs to outline whether or not a similar review to the one in South Australia is required here in Tasmania, and confirm whether or not Tasmanian children have been impacted.
