- Australian-first train welding robot is being installed at the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program site, marking a major construction milestone.
- Facility construction is on track, with internal fit-out underway and train manufacturing to begin in 2026.
- The Crisafulli Government is saving the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program after Labor's decade of decline and chronic mismanagement.
- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and a fresh start for the manufacturing sector.
The Crisafulli Government is moving full-steam ahead with the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, with the most advanced robotic welding machine of its kind in Australia arriving at the Torbanlea manufacturing site.
It is just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and a fresh start for the State's manufacturing sector.
The QTMP manufacturing facility, which is twice the size of Suncorp Stadium's playing field, is now structurally complete, with the internal fit-out underway in preparation for manufacturing to begin next year.
The cutting-edge Resistance Welding Robot, which is currently being installed at Torbanlea, will streamline train car assembly by precisely welding components and allowing simultaneous operations for efficient, high-quality production.
Once installed, local teams will undertake training on the equipment, with a recruitment drive currently underway to mobilise the 300 staff needed to operate the facility.
The Crisafulli Government is protecting local jobs in Maryborough and saving the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, which was subject to chronic mismanagement during Labor's decade of decline, including a $2.4 billion cost blowout that was hidden from Queenslanders.
Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the arrival of specialist equipment signalled the start of a new era in Queensland manufacturing.
"This is what delivery looks like, with specialist equipment going in, manufacturing infrastructure rising out of the ground and a tradie job bonanza underway to get the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program back on track," Minister Last said.
"The installation of this advanced robotic welder and other specialist equipment is a significant milestone that will deliver high-skilled careers into regional Queensland.
"After a decade of decline under Labor's mismanagement, the Crisafulli Government is saving the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program to support high-skilled jobs in the Fraser Coast region and the growing needs on the state's public transport network in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
Member for Maryborough John Barounis said the arrival of the advanced train welding robot was the start of a new chapter for local manufacturing.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering high-tech equipment, high-skilled jobs and high-value manufacturing right here in Torbanlea," Mr Barounis said.
"We're saving the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, delivering world-class manufacturing jobs to this region and giving young people a reason to stay, work and raise their families here at home.
"This facility will deliver new skills and great careers for local tradies, apprentices and engineers, and it's all happening because the Crisafulli Government is putting the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program back on track."
