West Nile virus reaches Netherlands

Researchers at Erasmus University Rotterdam have found a common whitethroat in the province of Utrecht that is very likely a carrier of the West Nile virus. This virus is a zoonosis that can be transmitted from mosquitoes to humans and thus cause West Nile fever. Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) is going to conduct tests on more animals from the same region.
