Western Australian students and staff roll up for WA

  • School COVID-19 vaccination program well underway in Western Australia
  • More than 120 people to be vaccinated at in-reach clinic at Perth's northern suburbs
  • School program in addition to other opportunities for COVID-19 vaccination
  • The McGowan Government's school COVID-19 vaccination program is gathering pace with a big contingent of students and staff at Butler College getting vaccinated at school today.

Nurses from the Child and Adolescent Health Service are delivering the vaccination clinic at the senior secondary school.

The initiative is part of the COVID-19 school vaccination program developed in collaboration between the Departments of Health and Education and standard WA Health parental and guardian consent processes apply for children and teens to get vaccinated, as part of the program.

The initiative has initially targeted priority settings including secondary schools, residential colleges, agricultural colleges and education support schools.

As part of the effort to increase vaccination rates among young people aged 12 and older, the program will also support schools in metropolitan and regional WA in transporting students to State-run vaccination clinics. This will provide another convenient option for young people to receive their COVID-19 vaccination.

The program is on top of opportunities for children and young people aged 12 and older to get vaccinated in many clinics around the State.

People can visit http://www.rollup.wa.gov.au to register and book their vaccination appointments. People are now also able to drop-in to State-run clinics and get vaccinated without an appointment.

WA Health State-run COVID-19 vaccination clinics are available in more than 100 locations across WA, with sites listed on the HealthyWA website.

COVID-19 vaccinations are also provided by a range of GPs, GP respiratory clinics and pharmacies across the State. People are encouraged to speak to their local health care provider to find out more.

More than 76 per cent of Western Australians, aged 12 and older, have now received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"The in-school vaccination clinic at Butler College presents a very convenient opportunity for these students, their teachers and other school staff to get vaccinated.

"This is yet another effective way we are helping people easily access a vaccination and boost WA's vaccination rates.

"I urge all eligible Western Australians to roll up for WA and get vaccinated against COVID-19."

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"This program is an additional measure to what is already in place and I encourage all eligible students and school staff to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

"It's an important initiative in helping to protect our community and is another way students can receive their COVID-19 vaccination.

"I thank parents and carers who have had the conversation with their children to reinforce the importance of rolling up for WA."

As stated by Vaccine Commander Chris Dawson:

"We need to keep the momentum going, keep Western Australia's vaccination rate rising.

"The school vaccination program is an example of how we are trying every avenue we can to provide opportunities for people to get vaccinated.

"This includes some in-reach clinics at schools, as well as transporting students from other schools to mass vaccination clinics."
