Last week, Rockhampton Regional Council completed streetscaping works and the installation of additional carparks in the CBD along William Street, between East Street and Bolsover Street.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the improvements to William Street will add colour and character to the area.

"Works included the reconstruction of the centre medians, the installation of four more carparks, including an accessible carpark for disabled patrons, and new asphalt surfacing," Cr Rutherford said.

"The crews also undertook landscaping, which will bring lovely colour and a leafy, shady canopy to the CBD.

"I want to thank the community and businesses in the area for your patience and understanding whilst we undertook these works.

"This is one of our main streets within the CBD, and it was great to upgrade the area."

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said simplifying the gardens and replacing them with trees meant additional parking for the area which was a welcome addition.

"It is great to be able to add extra parking to the CBD as well as ensuring the area is appealing," Cr Smith said.

"I want to commend the crews on getting the job done despite several weather events and uncovering some of the city's historic tram tracks, sections of which were donated to the Archer Park Rail Museum.

"This project is the latest example of Council's ongoing commitment to increasing shade cover and visual amenity within the CBD and follows the recent the tree planting project in Denham Street between Bolsover Street and East Street.

"The area is now open to traffic and pedestrians, and again, thank the community for their patience."
