Willow Grove Green Ban stands 16 July

CFMEU NSW

The NSW CFMEU has reaffirmed that its Green Ban on the demolition of Willow Grove stands and is warning the NSW Government against using the cover of the covid lockdown to try to bulldoze the heritage building.

"The CFMEU will stand with the community of Parramatta to protect this unique and irreplaceable piece of local heritage," said Darren Greenfield, CFMEU NSW Secretary.

"If any builders move onto the site to try to commence demolition work they need to understand that the union will step in."

"The State Government and Infrastructure NSW have more than enough on their plates dealing with the covid outbreak and its impact on the community without kicking off a fight over Willow Grove."

"The construction industry as a whole has been working closely to manage the impact of covid on the industry, on our people and on the NSW economy."

"It would be a remarkable act of hubris if the government chose to try to move on Willow Grove right now."

"The Premier should tell her team to refrain from betraying the Parramatta community under cover of covid."

"We will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Parramatta and the NSW community in the fight to Save Willow Grove."

"It's time for the NSW Government and Infrastructure NSW to sit down with the community to find a way to build the Powerhouse without destroying this important heritage site."
