The Albanese Government's Capacity Investment Scheme is turning investment commitments into construction, with work now underway on a new Western Australian wind farm that will power around 68,000 homes.
The 108 MW Waddi Wind Farm near Dandaragan is one of 10 projects supported through the Capacity Investment Scheme that are now progressing to construction and is expected to begin supplying electricity to the South West Interconnected System in 2028.
When operational, it could cut more than 280,000 tonnes of climate pollution from Western Australia's electricity grid every year - equivalent to taking around 90,000 cars off the road.
Construction of the wind farm will support up to 150 jobs in regional Western Australia, bolster energy security and deliver an economic boost to the local community.
Together, the 10 projects supported through CIS Tenders 5 and 6 will generate enough electricity to power 1 million homes - and store electricity to supply around 400,000 homes running at peak demand for 4 hours.
With the certainty provided by the Albanese Government's Capacity Investment Scheme, projects like the Waddi Wind Farm are attracting private investment into the new generation and storage needed to keep the lights on as the energy system transforms.
Nationally, the Capacity Investment Scheme has already announced support for more than 100 generation and storage projects, helping unlock the investment needed to deliver Australia's next generation of reliable energy infrastructure. These projects represent around 23 GW of generation capacity and 10 GW of dispatchable energy capacity.
