A driver was arrested after a traffic stop at Wingfield yesterday morning uncovered drugs and weapons.
About 8.45am on Tuesday 16 January, traffic officers from SAPOL's Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit were patrolling the Port River Expressway at Wingfield when they were overtaken by a Kia sedan travelling at speed. The Kia was then seen to exit onto Hanson Road, then onto Hines Road and continued to drive erratically and on the wrong side of the road before police managed to pull it over on Wingfield Road.
The driver, a 44-year-old Paralowie man, tested positive to methamphetamine and police checks revealed he was disqualified from driving.
A search of the man's car allegedly uncovered approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, prohibited weapons including knives and an extendable baton, and suspected stolen goods.
When police searched the man's home, they allegedly found a further 60 grams of methamphetamine, 80 grams of fantasy, two imitation handguns and thousands of dollars' worth of more suspected stolen items, including power tools.
The man was arrested and charged with reckless and dangerous driving, driving disqualified, drive with prescribed drug in oral fluid, three counts of traffic in a controlled drug, two counts of possess firearm, four counts of possess prohibited weapon and carry offensive weapon.
He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday 17 January.
