Witness appeal to Glen Waverley carjacking

Eastern Region Crime Squad detectives are appealing for a food delivery driver, who came to the aid of a man and child during an aggravated carjacking in Glen Waverley on Christmas Day, to come forward.

Investigators have been told a male driver got out of his vehicle to attend a convenience store in Glen Waverley Road about 5pm.

His 10-year-old daughter waited in the back seat of the car.

When the driver returned to the vehicle, an unknown male offender was sitting in the driver's seat trying to steal the car, with the daughter still sitting in the rear seat.

The victim struggled with the offender as his daughter managed to get out of the vehicle.

A number of people came to the aid of the victim but the offender escaped.

One of the witnesses who tried to restrain the offender during the incident was a delivery driver.

Police say he left the scene before they arrived but are hoping he will come forward to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the good Samaritan is urged to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
