Council is seeking input from the community to help inform the development of an upcoming draft Masterplan which will help guide future improvements within the Upwey town centre.

Streeton Ward Councillor, Andrew Fullagar, said that the project has come about thanks to advocacy from the community, as well as previous Council studies and plans.

"The time has come for Council to focus on Upwey and its people," Cr Fullagar said.

"Feedback, past and present will provide the basis for improvements to the township, making it more lively, better-connected and welcoming for the community.

"I must recognise the Upwey Community Group (UCG) for their initial work in identifying many key objectives and opportunities, which will definitely help support this community consultation.

"UCG have organised several public meetings over the past five years or so, which have resulted in key projects coordinated by committed local volunteers and the development of a Community Plan.

"Now is the time for us to extend those projects and plans into visible, functional improvements to enhance pride in Upwey.

"What we're looking for are ways we can increase community use and enjoyment of the town centre, while also making it a safer place for people to meet and share.

"By making improvements we also want the local business community feeling more confident that they have everything they need to thrive."

The community consultation specifically focuses around Upwey's shopping precinct, which includes Main St, the connection to Burwood Highway and Morris Road, and the community space between Main St and View St.

A possible list of improvements that could be made through a Masterplan include landscaping, public spaces, footpaths, street furniture, signage, lighting and car parking.

"For the broader Upwey community, this really is the launching pad for letting Council know the opportunities that they see for the town, as well as any issues that currently exist."

"I encourage all community members and business owners to jump online and have their say as part of this project, or to keep an eye out for upcoming pop-up sessions where they can provide their feedback in person."

Community members have until Tuesday, 26 September to provide input into the Upwey Town Centre Masterplan.
