A vehicle parked on yellow lines was not only stolen but also led Police to discovering a shotgun hidden at a property.
On Sunday morning, a unit located a vehicle parked on Hill Crescent, New Lynn. After running a number of checks found the vehicle had been reported stolen in August.
Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector Nick Salter, says further enquiries revealed the number plates had been changed and that the person linked to the plates was wanted for a bail breach.
"Officers searched the vehicle and have then found several documents in relation to another woman who had a warrant to arrest.
"A short time later officers made enquiries at a nearby address and a search of the property was undertaken."
Acting Inspector Salter says officers found a man hiding under a bed.
"He was quickly taken into custody without incident.
"A further search also located a modified single hand grip 12-gauge shotgun inside a guitar case, as well as live ammunition shells," he says.
"This is a great result from our team who took action after noticing something suspicious.
"Now we have another firearm taken out of circulation and two offenders to face court.
"Police work hard to hold offenders to account, especially those with the potential to cause serious harm in our communities."
A 43-year-old woman will appear in Waitākere District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a restricted weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition.
A 23-year-old man was charged with contravenes a protection order and wilful damage will appear in Waitākere District Court today.
