Youth Advisoty Committee endorsed its members

Darwin City Council

The Council congratulates Jemima Fernandes, a returning member, and Kaushal Shah, a new member, on their recent endorsement to the City of Darwin's Youth Advisory Committee.

Jemima has recently completed her Bachelor of Law at CDU, is an active member of the Indian Cultural Society NT, a passionate advocate for young people and a nominee for City of Darwin's 2022 Young Citizen of the Year.

Kaushal (Kane) has recently commenced his Master of Engineering at CDU. In addition to his studies, he is a volunteer with the Young Professionals Rotaract NT and a member of the engineering student society at CDU.

In its first meeting of 2023, YAC welcomed seven prospective members as observers and discussed committee governance while also consulting with Nous Group regarding the development of the Northern Territory Government's Northern Suburbs Youth Hub.

A Youth Advisory Committee is an Advisory Board for young people to voice their concerns and opinions about issues and matters that are important to them and are related to Council. The Youth Advisory Committee also assists young people in developing leadership, communication, teamwork and public skills.

In the coming year, the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) will focus on a range of projects that aligns with deliverables of City of Darwin's 2022-2026 Youth Strategy.
