He Copied Our Royal Commission — Here Are Ten More Ideas Premier Carroll Can Steal
Family First's Jane Foreman says new Premier Ben Carroll's adoption of Family First's call for a Big Build royal commission proves good policy has no copyright — so she's drawn up a top‑ten shopping list of further Family First ideas he's welcome to steal, free of charge, before Victorians go to the polls in November.
Ms Foreman says if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Premier Carroll has already paid Family First the biggest compliment of his short premiership by calling a royal commission into Big Build corruption, exactly as Family First demanded in June. Family First is happy to help him keep the streak going.
"We don't mind Premier Carroll raiding our policy cupboard, he's welcome to take the lot," said Mrs Foreman. "He's already proven a royal commission into Big Build corruption was a good idea by adopting it as his own. Here are ten more sitting right there for the taking."
Family First's full policy platform is free to read at familyfirstparty.org.au/policy. In the spirit of generosity to the new Premier, here are ten more ideas he is welcome to copy before November:
1. Wind back Victoria's abortion laws to protect pain‑capable unborn babies and ban sex‑selective abortion.
2. Scrap the Respectful Relationships program the Premier personally expanded as Education Minister, and get gender ideology out of the classroom for good.
3. Abolish the Education Department policy that forces teachers to hide a child's gender transition from their own parents.
4. Repeal the Conversion and Suppression law provisions that criminalise parents, doctors and pastors for helping a gender‑confused child.
5. End compulsory "diversity" training for public servants and government contractors.
6. De‑fund the taxpayer‑funded legal service at the Victorian Pride Centre.
7. Abolish the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, the taxpayer‑funded body Family First says has repeatedly overstepped into schools, workplaces and parenting to push gender ideology.
8. Unlock Victoria's gas reserves and keep the coal‑fired power stations open until there's a real replacement, to bring down power bills.
9. Close the drug injecting rooms and put the funding into rehabilitation instead.
10. Release more land and slash planning red tape to bring down housing costs and start paying down Victoria's $160 billion debt.
"Number two on that list should be easy for the Premier, he wrote it himself," said Mrs Foreman. "As Education Minister, Mr Carroll personally rolled Respectful Relationships out to more than two thousand Victorian schools. Family First says it's time he unwound his own handiwork and got gender ideology out of the classroom for good."
Family First is also calling on the Premier to revisit Victoria's abortion laws, which currently allow a termination after 24 weeks' gestation with the sign‑off of just two doctors — laws Family First says amount to abortion up to birth in all but name.
"If the Premier is in a copying mood, protecting pain‑capable unborn babies and banning sex‑selective abortion would be a good place to start," said Mrs Foreman. "Family First has been saying this for years. Mr Carroll now has the chance to prove the royal commission wasn't a one‑off."
This is exactly why Victoria needs Family First in the Legislative Council after November: to make sure a Premier who has already found one good idea in Family First's policy platform doesn't stop there — and to hold him to it if he does.
