Western Australia's highest-achieving secondary students were recognised today at the 2025 Beazley Medal ceremony, held at the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia.
Cohen Beveridge from Willetton Senior High School was awarded the Beazley Medal: WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education) and Holly Hunter from Rossmoyne Senior High School received the Beazley Medal: VET (Vocational Education and Training).
The presentation was attended by Education Minister Sabine Winton, with Youth Minister Hannah Beazley representing the Beazley family. The winners were joined by their families, school representatives, and key representatives from the education sector.
The Beazley Medal is the highest honour a senior secondary student in Western Australia can receive and is named after Kim Edward Beazley AO, who was a teacher and Federal Minister for Education.
The Beazley Medal: WACE is awarded for excellence to the student who achieves the top WACE award score, which is used to rank students for General Exhibitions and determines the top student in the State for ATAR courses.
Cohen Beveridge has also received a General Exhibition, Subject Certificates of Excellence in Chemistry, Mathematics Methods and Physics, along with a Certificate of Distinction. Cohen was the joint 2025 Dux of Willetton Senior High School and received consistent A grades across Years 11 and 12.
Cohen is looking forward to pursuing a degree in Engineering at the University of Western Australia and plans to specialise in electrical engineering. He enjoyed studying physics and mathematics at school and electrical engineering is a field that will integrate his interests.
The Beazley Medal: VET is awarded to the Year 12 student who has demonstrated the most outstanding overall performance in a VET Certificate II or higher and in their other WACE achievements.
Holly Hunter completed a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start), a qualification that requires a significant number of hours in the workplace. Holly exceeded these requirements, completing an impressive 228 work placement hours.
Holly received a VET Exhibition and a VET Certificate of Excellence in the Construction Industries area. She has achieved a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) from South Metropolitan TAFE. Alongside the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start), Holly undertook the ATAR Mathematics Applications course in Year 11 as it complemented her VET studies.
Holly is excited to be starting an apprenticeship in the new year. She looks forward to being fully qualified in her industry and working independently.
In total, 4,152 awards were awarded to 3,771 students in 2025, 52 General Exhibitions, one General Exhibition (ATSI), one Special General Award, 38 Subject Exhibitions and one Special Subject Award.
The schools with the highest number of General Exhibition winners were Perth Modern School with 21, Rossmoyne Senior High School with five, and Christ Church Grammar School and Methodist Ladies' College, both with four.
The Beazley Medal: WACE and Beazley Medal: VET, as well as students who receive General Exhibitions, Special General Awards and Subject Exhibitions will be invited to attend the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Exhibitions and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
