Bethesda, MD (May 26, 2021) - John M. Inadomi, MD, AGAF, will begin his term as the 116th president of the AGA Institute on June 1, 2021.
Dr. Inadomi, an internationally recognized physician-scientist and beloved mentor in the field of gastroenterology, currently serves as chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Prior to taking this prestigious leadership role in July 2020, Dr. Inadomi served for 10 years as division head of gastroenterology at University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Inadomi's leadership experience in academic medicine positions him for great success in his role as AGA president.
A proud third-generation Japanese American, Dr. Inadomi was born and raised in Southern California. He received a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in mechanical engineering and earned a medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. In addition to building a strong reputation as an excellent GI clinician and academic leader, Dr. Inadomi is a prolific and NIH-funded researcher focused on improving quality of care and the prevention and treatment of esophageal and colorectal cancer.

Dr. Inadomi has been an active AGA member for over 25 years, most notably chairing the AGA Clinical Practice and Quality Measures Committees and the AGA Institute Clinical Practice Section. He served as clinical research councillor on the AGA Governing Board from 2015 to 2018, and the following year rejoined as vice president in line for the presidential role. Dr. Inadomi's term as AGA president concludes in May 2022.
