The next steps in rebuilding the amenities building at the Danny Buderus Field at the Taree Recreation Ground are now underway.
This will involve the construction of a slab for the new building.
MidCoast Council's Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell, said the rebuild had been delayed after structural damage was uncovered during a planned upgrade to the previous facilities.
"As a result of this discovery we stopped work to ensure the safety of contractors and the community while we undertook investigations and redesigned our approach," Mr De Szell said.
The structural damage to both the walls and the concrete slab was undetected in the initial investigations, and as a result the initial design and engineering were not feasible resulting in demolition of the building.
"We have now completed the redesign of the building and worked with the user groups during this process to ensure their immediate priorities were addressed," Mr De Szell said.
The slab and various other elements such as electrical conduit and water provision are being completed now. Tenders will be called soon to confirm the contractor for the remainder of the rebuild of the amenities and the associated changerooms. This will hopefully see the project progress without any further delays.
The Taree Recreation Grounds are one of the most the prominent and highly-used sporting facilities in the MidCoast Council area.
Council recently invested in a refurbishment of the kiosk, storage area and meeting rooms as part of the upgrade program.
The program has been funded by an allocation from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, developer contributions and general funds allocated by Council.
