Animal Welfare Fund grant program applications open

Department of Primary Industry and Resources

Applications are now open for the Animal Welfare Fund (AWF) grant program for organisations that offer valuable animal welfare initiatives in the Northern Territory (NT).

Territorians are known for their love of pets and we are also fortunate to have some of the most beautiful wildlife right on our doorstep, so these grants are vital to assist organisations in the protection and welfare of our animals.

The Northern Territory Government is committed to ensuring the health, welfare and safety of animals.

The annual grant program supports local organisations to expand, offer more services or provide better access to services, particularly in remote communities. The grants can be used for a range of services to improve animal wellbeing, raise community awareness of animal owner responsibilities and assist in improving animal management practices.

2019-20 grant recipient PAWS Darwin used their $15,000 grant to support a veterinary clinic to care for pets of low income families, enabling them to offer low cost care.

"The grant helped us purchase supplies for a much needed veterinary clinic to care for pets at a reduced cost or no cost to families who cannot afford expensive vet care. We are extremely grateful to have received the grant that helps us to continue to care for disadvantaged pets in our community," said Lisa Hansen, PAWS Darwin Operations Manager.

Last year, 12 grant recipients were selected to receive full or partial funding for projects to deliver a range of innovative and much needed animal welfare projects or initiatives.

The 2020-21 grant program totals $100,000 with a maximum grant available for any project up to $50,000. There are two tiers of funding that organisations can apply for – small grants up to $10,000 and large grants up to $50,000.

There is no limit to the number of applications allowed per organisation.

Online applications are now open, and close Friday, 17 July 2020.
