Visual artists get ready, The Dubbo Art Fair (DAF) is coming back in September 2022! The Western Plains Cultural Centre is proud to once again host the extremely popular event to showcase and celebrate the incredible visual art talent that live in the Dubbo region. Event curators are now calling all local artists to submit their applications to exhibit before the end of June to ensure they can participate!
The DAF event provide artists within the Dubbo region an opportunity to showcase their work to the community over one art packed weekend. Residents and visitors to the event will also have the opportunity to purchase art direct from the local artists which supports the work of regional visual artists and encourages a vibrant creative sector.
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) Cultural Development Coordinator, Jessica Moore said applications for artists are now open via the WPCC website. "We encourage all local artists to apply, but there are limited spaces available. We have had a lot of interest from the community following last year's event, including artist who missed out last year, so we are expecting the spots to fill up quickly," said Ms Moore.
Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council, Mathew Dickerson said it's extremely important to provide our local artists with this sort of opportunity. "We know that supporting and nurturing local creatives, artistic experiences and events have positive social and cultural benefits for regional communities. Events such as DAF help shine a light on the remarkable creative people in our region, and give the public a chance to see this creativity up-close, and take a piece home with them," said Councillor Dickerson.
Artists involved gave the event great reviews. "The DAF has given all creatives involved the platform to connect with our local community. Those visitors to whom I spoke expressed huge support for this event and it was said more than once that they didn't know of the creative talent that lived and worked in our region," said Pauline Griffiths, Visual Artist (Paint, Sketch & Printmaking).
The WPCC will be opening its whole gallery space to individual artists to showcase their work to the public. Over the weekend, artists will be able to promote and sell their work, and with no participation or stall fee, with all the sales going directly to the artists.
The Dubbo Art Fair is an outcome of SPARC Dubbo Regional Cultural Plan and has received funding support from Regional Arts NSW, Targeted Marketing Campaign, to promote the fair across print and digital platforms for industry, audience and business engagement.
