UniSC researchers have secured $1.7 million in ARC Discovery funding for projects tackling road safety, visual neuroscience, and climate justice.

The University of the Sunshine Coast has received funding from the Australian Research Council under its 2026 Discovery Projects scheme that supports high quality fundamental research.

Associate Professor Gemma Read has received more than $557,000 for a project led by UniSC's Centre for Human Factors and Systems Science which aims to address the growing rate of road traffic fatalities in Australia.

Dr Will Harrison is leading a project that has been awarded more than $438,000 to explore how high-dimensional visual experience arises from low-dimensional retinal images.

Associate Professor Alexandra Campbell is involved in a University of Queensland-led project that received more than $704,000 to investigate if solutions to climate change, like carbon offset projects, can uphold human rights.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Ross Young congratulated the recipients.

"These projects will have significant benefits for Australia in the areas of injury prevention, neuroscience and sustainability where UniSC has international expertise," Professor Young said.
