Mornington Peninsula Shire, together with more than 20 councils across Greater Melbourne has joined forces with Scouts Victoria, the Entomological Society of Victoria and the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria to participate in one of the world's biggest community science events: The City Nature Challenge 2022.

The City Nature Challenge is an annual, four-day, global biodiversity blitz held on the last weekend of April.

This international event motivates people around the world to find and document nature observations where they live through the citizen science app iNaturalist. The City Nature Challenge also encourages some friendly competition to see which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species and engage the most people in the event.

To be in with a chance to win, we need our community to get involved! Anyone can help record the diverse wild species of our region by uploading photos of their nature finds to the app iNaturalist. iNaturalist is easy to use - if you need a little help getting started, watch this video: inaturalist.org/pages/video+tutorials

Once you're set up, head outdoors and get snapping! It's a great way to engage with nature and learn about plants and animals. By taking part you'll be contributing to citizen science and showing the world the amazing biodiversity Mornington Peninsula has to offer.

The City Nature Challenge is happening from Friday 29 April – Monday 2 May. Fun for all ages!
