Art in Council Chambers

Kiama Council

Painting by Robyn Sharp

Kiama's Council Chambers and Mayor's office are now being used to exhibit our local artists.

The exhibitions will be promoted via the Council website, Kimunico and the Kiama Cultural Arts Network newsletter.

"Members of the public are welcome to drop by any time to view the works hanging in our Council Chambers and the Mayor's office," said Kiama Mayor Neil Reilly.

"If the doors are closed to Chambers or my office, please respect that there is a meeting on. Otherwise, we encourage our community to come in and view the ever-changing display of local art."

"While Council is still advising people to do business with us online where possible to minimise COVID risks, if you're visiting council or walking along Manning Street, we hope you feel comfortable to step inside – you will be rewarded with a visual treat if you do," Cr Reilly said.

Works will be on display for a period of six weeks for the community and council staff to enjoy and, if they wish, purchase. Exhibitions will be based around themes relevant to that time of year.

Themes for 2022, in order will be:

  • Feb/March - Seniors Week - Artists 65 years and older and/or artwork celebrating what is means to be older.
  • March/April - Youth Week - Competition - 'Its all about YOUth' - shortlisted canvases will be exhibited in chambers.
  • April/June - World Environment Day - Artwork celebrating the environment.
  • June/July - NAIDOC Week - Local Aboriginal artists.
  • July/August - Wear it Purple Day (LGBTIQ) - Artwork that features the colour purple.
