Bayside Kids Named Newest Ocean Guardians

Ecological Sensibility is at the core of a year-long inquiry for students at Explorers Early Learning in Brighton East. This dynamic project explores the intricate relationships and mutual reliance between people and the natural world.

Sparked by a centre-wide family beach clean-up and a growing interest in marine life, the kindergarten room has become deeply invested in safeguarding our marine ecosystems. The students have been exploring complex issues such as coral bleaching, plastic pollution, and air pollution, discovering how they can negatively impact our oceans.

Each week, the children head to the beach for Bush Kinder sessions that extend their learning through direct engagement with the environment, deepening their understanding of marine habitats.

They are extremely passionate about the effect of rubbish, particularly plastic, on the ocean, dedicating at least 30 minutes every Tuesday to cleaning up their part of the shoreline. The collected litter has been creatively repurposed as artwork, and they have started weighing their weekly haul to monitor their impact.
