'beacon' of colour celebrates innovation in Agriculture this National Ag Day

Commonwealth Bank has joined New South Wales farmers Jane and Jodie Costello to shine a "beacon" on the strength and resilience of Australian agriculture.

To celebrate National Ag Day 2022, with the theme of "innovation in agriculture", Commonwealth Bank partnered with the Costello family to use cutting-edge GPS technology to etch a 60,000 square metre CommBank Beacon on the Costellos' farm in Monteagle, NSW.

"This project was about celebrating the ingenuity across the agricultural industry," said Paul Fowler, CommBank's Executive General Manager Regional and Agribusiness Banking.

"Jodie and Jane's property is all about celebrating the history of the land and rural Australia. With the canola in full bloom with fields of CBA yellow, this was the perfect partnership to highlight the importance of innovation, showcasing the technology that is supporting a thriving industry.

"Our longstanding commitment to regional Australia is something we're incredibly proud of and we're continuing to work towards ensuring the ongoing success of regional communities and Australian agriculture," said Mr Fowler.

Jodie and Jane Costello have been growing wheat and canola on their farm, Lower Coolegong, for more than 20 years and were excited about the innovative nature of the project.

"Innovation is an essential part of agriculture and is key to everything we do, with our farming practices regularly adapting to help us remain sustainable," said Jodie.

"Developing Glencara, an idyllic function space and destination wedding venue within our farm, has been an important part of diversifying the business and ensuring our sustainability for generations to come," added Jane.

"The two businesses continue to support each other. When canola is in season, yellow flowers surround the house with a checkerboard of green and gold as far as you can see.

"As the popularity of regional tourism continues to grow, we're very excited to welcome people out to rural New South Wales where our goal is to showcase our history alongside the land's natural beauty."

Commbank employees will be celebrating National Ag Day this week to recognise Aussie farmers and the important role they play in Australia's success.

"While there is a lot to celebrate this National Ag Day, we also recognise many of our farmers and agricultural communities who continue to show incredible resilience in the face of challenges. CommBank is committed to supporting our customers and communities as they deal with the immediate impacts of the catastrophic flooding along Australia's east coast," Mr Fowler said.
