Be_Hear/Now. Reinventing Festivals and Events

In the face of COVID-19 restrictions and the continued impact upon the creative and arts sectors, the City of Ballarat has sought to reinterpret festivals and events.

Be_Hear/Now is a hyper-local music program running over three consecutive Friday nights (13, 20, 27) November in three hidden locations, with the events showcasing the breadth of Ballarat's creative community. All live streamed from inside a derelict bacon factory, quirky motels and bowling alleys, the series of music events is about showcasing Ballarat like people have never seen it before.

It features celebrated performers such as Freya Hollick and the Dead Salesmen, through to the heritage-steeped Ballarat Brass Band and the energy of the Sundanese dance mob Malë Kël Loc Kël.

Be_Hear/Now is Ballarat taking back live music and performance and celebrating the skills and expertise of its community. You can stream it all at www.creativeballarat.com.au/be-hear-now.

While audience participation is limited in these locations, the City is providing a rare opportunity for two people to attend in person, subject to COVID-19 restrictions. But in order to secure a ticket, the audience needs to be part of the action.

The City has partnered with Plug in Human to bring [ I miss your touch ]. This is an online immersive art experience giving two people, in separate locations the chance to dance and interact. Community members are encouraged to book a spot online with a friend they're missing, create art and they might secure a coveted spot at one of the events.

Be_Hear/Now is a project of the Arts & Culture Unit at the City of Ballarat. This program is a part of the Live Music Strategy and Ballarat's award-winning Creative City Strategy.
