Body located after house fire near Glen Innes

A body has been located following a house fire in the state's north this morning.

About 1.20am (Wednesday 27 April 2022), emergency services were called to a house fire along the New England Highway, Ben Lomond – about 40km south of Glen Innes.

Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the fire; however, the home was extensively damaged.

Officers from New England Police District secured a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the blaze.

Following an inspection of the property this afternoon, officers located a body.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of a man who resided in the home.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
