Boost for Stolen Generations Survivors Funding

Minister for Indigenous Australians

As Australians mark National Sorry Day, the Albanese Labor Government is announcing $2.6 million in additional funding to support Stolen Generations survivors.

The Healing Foundation will receive up to an additional $1 million for its critical work with survivors and their descendants, including community-led and trauma-informed programs.

Additional one-off funding of up to $1.6 million will be made available to the eight Link-Up service providers across Australia.

This funding will support activities delivered in 2026-27 and is in addition to the $87 million, four-year investment announced in February this year for the Healing Foundation and Link-Up services.

This funding is in recognition that next year marks the 30th anniversary of The Bringing Them Home report and that there is more work to do.

The first National Sorry Day was held in 1998, a year after the Bringing Them Home Report was tabled in Parliament.

National Sorry Day remains a significant day for all Australians to reflect on the traumatic impact of forced removals of First Nations children from their families.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy:

"On this National Sorry Day, we reflect on the pain and harm caused to Stolen Generations by past policies of forced removal.

"The Healing Foundation and Link-Up services continue to play a critical role in supporting Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

"This investment recognises that next year marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark Bringing Them Home report and will underpin a range of community-led programs to support the healing of our Stolen Generations."
