The Tasmanian Government is backing the next generation of tourism and hospitality workers by investing $2.55 million over three years into the Tasmanian Hospitality and Tourism Academy.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said the Academy will help deliver training models that respond directly to industry needs, while helping Tasmanians build rewarding and sustainable careers.
"Tourism is a powerhouse for Tasmania. It creates jobs, strengthens our economy, supports infrastructure development and helps showcase the very best of what Tasmania has to offer," Minister Jaensch said.
"A strong and skilled workforce is critical to the continued growth of Tasmania's tourism and hospitality industry.
"This investment will support training and workforce initiatives that respond to the needs of industry, while creating stronger pathways for Tasmanians.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are ensuring Tasmanians can access the training and employment opportunities they need to participate in our growing visitor economy."
The Academy is an industry-led organisation established specifically to train and develop the workforce needed to meet the evolving needs of Tasmania's hospitality and tourism industries.
The Academy programs cover a broad range of visitor economy skills, from barista training and responsible service of alcohol accreditation, through to leadership development, visitor experience guiding, food and beverage skills and event training.
