The METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line has reached a major milestone with the Broun Avenue bridge, over Tonkin Highway, demolished and new Morley Station designs released.
The bridge has been removed to make way for a new longer and wider structure, which will accommodate traffic lanes and a bus interchange.
At more than 60 metres wide and 6.5 metres high, it will be one of Perth's widest roads and bus interchange bridges, and accommodate 12 bus stands.
The new bridge will lead down to the future Morley Station, which will be constructed in the Tonkin Highway median. The new designs released today show how the station follows a similar design style to others along the Morley-Ellenbrook Line to give a familiar passenger experience.
Located at the heart of an established and diverse community, Morley Station is surrounded by a nature reserve and the local sporting community, with an integrated bus interchange and multi-level car park connecting passengers for the 15-minute train ride to the CBD.
Removal of the 38-year-old Broun Avenue bridge required a complete closure of a section of Tonkin Highway last weekend, with crews working around the clock to remove the bridge structure, including central piers and footings.
Work is well underway on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, with ground preparation works happening at the future Ellenbrook, Malaga and Whiteman Park Station sites. Works have also begun on the rail tunnel structure at the Gnangara Road and Drumpellier Drive intersection, and the road-over-rail bridge at Beechboro Road North.
The Morley-Ellenbrook Line is jointly funded by the Western Australian and Commonwealth Governments.

"Driving along Tonkin Highway, you can see the huge amount of work underway as part of this project, which is supporting hundreds of local jobs.
"The new Morley Station is a once-in-a-generation project for this area, which will provide important public transport links for local people for years to come."
