The University of Texas at Arlington's Veterans Business Outreach Center will host its fourth annual Business Beyond the Battlefield Conference Oct. 5-7 at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel, 1500 Convention Center Drive.

Business Beyond the Battlefield provides collaborative, hands-on, interactive learning opportunities including inspirational keynotes, subject matter expert breakout sessions, opportunities to develop connections with experienced coaches and mentors, expert referrals and dynamic business development networking activities.

The conference is a hybrid three-day business-to-business training experience, business opportunity and franchise expo for veterans, active duty and military spouses who are interested in starting, growing or empowering military-connected small businesses.

Patrick Alcorn, director of the Veterans Business Outreach Center, said the annual event is a chance for military-connected entrepreneurs and organizations that support veteran-owned and military spouse-owned small businesses to come together to spur business development.

"Military Times ranks UTA as the No. 1 university for veterans in Texas," Alcorn said. "The reason they attend school here is because we have programs and resources to empower their capacity to grow the economy."

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, who co-chairs the U.S. Conference of Mayor's Veterans Affairs Task Force, recently launched the Arlington Veteran Affairs Task Force to assess and enhance Arlington's programs and resources for veterans as a model for cities nationwide.

Larry Stubblefield, associate administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration, is one of the conference's speakers.

Other speakers include Ron Bender, director of Franchise Relations at Threshold Brands and an advocate for veterans in franchising through the International Franchise Association's Diversity Institute and VetFran; David Sperry, chapter chairman of SCORE in Fort Worth; Dominique Haskett, adviser for Capital Asset Advisors; and many others.
