Nineteen new ACT Policing officers have been sworn at a ceremony at the Australian Federal Police College in Barton.
Three women and 16 men, ranging in age from 19 to 37 have completed the intensive 26-week course that covers all aspects of foundational policing.
The new officers have previously worked in areas including the legal field, creative arts, personal training, government, software development, administration and defence.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Marisa Paterson attended the graduation ceremony yesterday and welcomed the new constables.
"We thank all 19 officers for their commitment to keep Canberrans safe. Their diverse backgrounds will allow each of them to bring their own unique experiences to their role as constables in each of our five suburban police stations across Canberra," Dr Paterson said.
"Since July last year, 126 recruits have graduated and commenced in ACT Policing (including this class). I am pleased to confirm to Canberrans that our commitment of an additional 150 permanent staff for ACT Policing by 2029 remains on track – with further recruit classes under way."
Chief Police Officer, Deputy Commissioner Scott Lee congratulated the new recruits and welcomed them to the beginning of their new careers.
"I thank all 19 recruits for joining ACT Policing. This can be a lifelong career that provides both unique challenges and incredibly rewarding opportunities," Chief Police Officer Lee said.
"We welcome them to the policing family and I am sure they will take great pride in serving our wonderful community."
