Chair of Productivity Commission

Australian Treasury

Michael Brennan has advised the Government he will not seek reappointment as Chair of the Productivity Commission.

I thank Mr Brennan for his commitment and significant contribution to the Commission's work over the past five years.

This includes the recently released 5-Year Productivity Inquiry, which was an important addition to the national debate about lifting Australia's productivity performance.

Mr Brennan was appointed as Chair of the Commission on 11 September 2018. He had previously served as a Deputy Secretary for the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance before joining the Commonwealth Treasury as the Deputy Secretary of Fiscal Group.

A merit-based recruitment process will now commence to appoint a new Chair.

The Commission is an independent research and advisory body that investigates economic, social and environmental issues affecting the welfare of Australians.

The Albanese Government is committed to ensuring the Productivity Commission remains strong and effective into the future, providing world-class advice on productivity as well as prosperity and progress more broadly.
