A man will face court after allegedly seriously injuring another man and threatening police in the state's New England region this morning.
About 2am (Sunday 17 May 2026), police were called to a motel on Otho Street, Inverell, following reports of an assault.
On arrival, officers attached to New England Police District found that a 24-year-old man had been allegedly assaulted with a wine glass by a 41-year-old man.
The 24-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Inverell Base Hospital with serious head and facial injuries.
He was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition where he remains.
The 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene before being taken to Inverell Police Station.
While at the station, the 41-year-old has allegedly made threats towards several officers.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, reckless wounding and intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm (two counts).
The 41-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 today.
